MESOTHERAPY

It is a method that may be applied to the whole body and that is used for the treatment of cellulite and local fat deposits.

The skin is the largest protective tissue in our body and is made up of three layers; epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The epidermis is rich in keratocytes, melanocytes and Langerhans cells. Dermis originates from the mesoderm and is rich in connective tissue cells, mainly fibroblasts, nerve endings, extracellular matrix elements (collagen etc.). Hypodermis is rich in adipose tissue elements.

Mesotherapy is a treatment modality applied by injecting drugs in the dermis layer of the skin. It may be used for the treatment of wrinkles, cellulite and hair loss as well as rheumatologic and traumatic disorders. Mesotherapy drugs are administered locally as intradermal injections. It has an immediate effect since the capillary network is rich in dermis. Mesotherapy has been used in sports injuries, treatment of cellulite and skin wrinkles and it has become an easily applied and painless procedure recently. Vasodilator drugs, lypolytic drugs and venotonic drugs are injected at predetermined doses in mesotherapy. Each session should be at least 2-3 days apart. If acute treatment is planned, 12-15 sessions should be scheduled. The patient should not use any cream or lotion prior to treatment, should not take a shower or bath for 12 hours post-therapy and should not be exposed to sun. Treatment is terminated in patients who do not experience any benefit in the first 4 sessions. If mesotherapy is used to treat cellulite, 4-7 repeat sessions should be undertaken each year after the primary 15 sessions to stop the progression of lipodystrophy. Mesotherapy should not be used in pregnant women and in patients with bleeding disorders. Aspirin and similar drugs should be stopped 48 hours prior to therapy.

The aim of mesotherapy applications on hairy skin is to strengthen thinned and spaced hair and to ensure the growth of healthier hair. Mesotherapy is applied in 8 sessions one or two times a week. The sessions are carried on monthly after this.

Mesolifting technique is the treatment of skin wrinkles with mesotherapy. The patient should receive mesotherapy once a month during the first 3 months and once every 2-3 months after that. Significant reduction of the lines on the forehead, over the lips and nasolabial folds apparent after 40-45 years of age is possible after the first 2-3 sessions.
